Nilla has made it!!! What an epic journey, so many highs and lows… including a few technical issues that prevented Nilla from being able to update the blog, so apologies to anyone thinking it was their computer! Good old Facebook saved the day, so check out the Facebook link for all Nillas’ updates and the most amazing pictures! Here is an excerpt of the last few days on the Camino…

1 Oct – What a magical day to end the 300km journey of the Camino! We started early this morning in the mist, walking 21kms from A Rua to Santiago de Compostela. As we walked the scenery along the way was once again magical… This experience has truly been one that will always be in my heart.
On arrival into Santiago the Puerto Rican friends that we made along the way were there to greet us, that was truly a special moment!!! To know that fellow Peregrino’s cared for us and that each and every one of our group had actually walked their entire chosen distance made me feel so proud!!! I really don’t know the words to express how I feel right now…

2 Oct – With a lot a gratitude I celebrate my 61st birthday today… this morning we went to a Pilgrims Mass which was an emotional start to what has been a wonderful day!!! The highlight was to be in the cathedral as they swung the Botafumerio!!! I truly felt the blessings of the Camino as the Botafumerio was swung…not only for myself also for all that I walked the 300kms with and for!!!
As the sun sets on my 61st birthday I sit and reflect on where I am, what has been achieved and the reason that lead me here…I have officially outlived my Mother, Father, now also my Brother and am a 12 year Breast Cancer Thriver!!! I wanted to do something of significance to celebrate my 60th year, as many do not have the opportunity to do so! That is why I chose the Camino…the Camino has taught me so much and today I had the opportunity to really appreciate life!!!

3 Oct – It’s official… our Camino journey has come to an end…today we ventured to Finisterra which they call ‘the End of the World’.  This is where the Camino finishes for all, and we spent time contemplating our individual Camino’s looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, and leaving something of significance behind from your experience…

Congratulations to Nilla and all the Camino walkers – we are so proud of you!!! Can’t wait to see you when you get back. You can see Nilla’s entire journey on Facebook.

We have been overwhelmed by the support for Nilla’s fundraiser for The McGrath Foundation as she Walks For Those Who Cannot – thank you! Even though the Camino walk is over for this year, the fight to find a cure continues… Please donate if you can, the link is below, and a massive thank you to everyone who has donated already, whether it be online for by popping into the office or the donation box at the Bendigo Bank.
